Behind the Scenes with Lisa: How to Structure a Team Meeting That Rocks

One of the first things you learn about me is the importance I place on structure. In fact, structure and investing in myself are the twins that have enabled me to create a multimillion-dollar business, doing what I love.

Of course, I didn’t do that alone. I have an amazing team, and to take full advantage of their brilliance and passion—as well as the magic of structure—last week, I flew in my key players, and for two days, we sat down and focused on the year ahead, building and refining our “Sales Conversion Machine.”

A lot of you have been asking me about our meeting. So here for you is what we did and how it was structured.

The Evening Before
Our meeting actually began the evening before, at a restaurant, where we all shared a nice dinner and accomplished three objectives so that we could start our two-day team meeting completely diving into the year.

1. Accomplishments. I asked each team member to share the three company accomplishments that they’re most proud of from the year before. This was not only a great way to close out the year, but it also showed me what my team values about their contribution. We got it all up on a poster-sized sticky note, so that we could all bask in our accomplishments.

2. Acknowledgments. The evening also gave me the chance to acknowledge my team, which I did, in part, with one of my “favorite things”—the best snuggly blanket on the planet.

3. Visions and initiatives. To transition into creating the new year for our company, I put up a new poster-sized sticky note, and asked each team member to share one initiative that they felt was super important for us to focus on. It was truly amazing. Their great ideas went beyond even what I was thinking!

Days One and Two
With such an awesome prologue, we were able to dive into our first day, which was devoted to Online Marketing, while Day Two was devoted to Live event and Mastermind program delivery. Thus, we covered the three main areas of our Sales Conversion Machine.

With giant notes all over the wall, we chose the top initiatives to focus on, and then did strategic planning on each one: creating how we were going to get from here to there.

Along the way, we considered these questions:

  • Do we need any extra players?
  • Will team members need to take on extra roles and responsibilities?
  • Do we need to let go of something to allow the new project to come in?

And there you have it—a team meeting structure that rocks!
