You Can’t Out Give God

November Mid Article PictureI’m a big believer in the power of tithing as taught by Edwene Gaines in The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity.

In her model you tithe 10% of your income to those people, places or institutions who have fed you spiritually. They’ve inspired you, helped you to remember who you are.

By giving in this way, you acknowledge God as the Source, and the more I’ve experimented with this practice the more I’ve become convinced that, try as we might, we cannot out give God.

Your recipient may end up being a charity, but more likely it’s a person or group very close to home. I’ve given to acquaintances, colleagues, team members, authors of books, spiritual organizations, friends, strangers as well as charities that have inspired me.

How Tithing Gives Back
I started tithing five years ago when I really didn’t have any extra disposable income, and from doing it anyway my life and abundance had expanded exponentially. My business has grown from the low six figures to the multi-millions, my reach has expanded internationally and big and small miracles come my way daily.

For example, at one of my events a year ago, I felt inspired by the work of the eWomen Network Foundation and decided to challenge myself and everyone in the audience to donate. It was an experiment that caught fire! To date, we have raised more than $286,000 for the foundation.

As a result of selflessly tithing to the foundation, we ended up in a relationship where they invited me to be their keynote speaker at their yearly conference, honored me as their Foundation Champion of the Year — and introduced me to their subscribers.

In reviewing my sales this year I almost fell off my chair when I saw that the sales from their subscribers were almost exactly equal to the amount of money I helped raise for the foundation!

It was as if God rewarded me personally in direct relation to what we raised.

I know it could easily sound like a coincidence, but that kind of thing happens all the time to me and my clients who tithe. I’ll send out $3,000, and then open my mailbox and find a check for $3,500.

Tithing Tips
Are you inspired to try tithing? If so, you need to keep these tips in mind.

Keep your focus on giving. Don’t give with the expectation of getting. Enjoy how good it feels to focus on that which inspires you. Give and let go!

The Universe often gives from a different direction. The eWomen Network Foundation was an exception to this, but many times you tithe to institution A and receive from person B.

Give without attachment to how the money is used. Just give and say thank you. How they use the money is up to them.

Tithing has proven to me over and over that when we give, the Universe gives again to us — and always so much more than we dreamed of.

I would love to hear your tithing experience. Let me know below.

  1. I totally agree with your thoughts on this subject Lisa. While many of us demonstrate discipline and “faith” in physical things we can see, there is a law of sowing and reaping at work in our lives. Thanks for your sharing your thoughts on what could be a controversial topic for many folks!

  2. Lisa-
I completely agree with your words regarding tithing and I so appreciate them!
I love the clarification of tithing as well, as many people think tithing is solely to give 10% of your earnings to the church. I have always believed in the power of philanthropy and I teach this to my girls at every opportunity: When we give, the Universe gives back exponentially!
I am so glad you are back from your trip safely, and am sending healing thoughts and messages east to you from Texas!

    Best-

  3. Thank you Lisa. You inspired me one year ago at your Big Life seminar to begin tithing. It was bumpy at first, however, I re-read the book and recommitted this past July. Just recently I’ve noticed some resistance coming up and this email post is so timely, I literally have tears in my eyes. Thank you Lisa for reminding me of that simple truth “You cannot out give God!” I have had an envelope on my desk for a week with a tithe inside…today, I am letting it go, and letting God handle the rest. Blessings to you, your beautiful family, and your parents right now.

  4. Hi Lisa! The first time I heard of Edwene’s book was when you mentioned it during your Speak to Sell event in June, 2011 (I attended the simulcast..it was fabulous!) I ordered the book right away! I’ve learned if I want to achieve success, I need to do what successful people, like you, do! I loved Edwene’s book and have been following the laws since I read it. Amazing things have happened as a result. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your gifts and talents. I appreciate you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and I really hope your dad is well on way to a speedy recovery. With overflowing gratitude, Julie

  5. Hi Lisa. Tithing is very important. I was given a vision to do a series of art related workshops a few years ago. This fall I had a opportunity to provide one on quilt making to a group of homeless women. I was given three sessions to get the quilt done. I decided to do the three workshops for free. I mentioned to my employer that I would be doing these workshops for the ladies and he paid me for two of the three workshops. The non-profit I conducted the workshops for are now interested in allowing me to do a documentary on homelessness using their clients. God keeps giving me more and more great assignments. I tithe my time and money too. I am looking forward to each day as I get up motivated and supported by the universe. Thanks for the reminder about tithing it works! Looking forward to receiving your great information. Keep shining we need you!!!

  6. Great advice. I’m a big believer in; you have to give it away to keep it.

I’ve experienced many of these “coincidence’s” in my life as well. And a great tip you gave is no expectations. Which also applies to giving my time, expectations lead to resentments. I find it helpful (if I’m not sure how or what to give) that if I suspect I’ll resent or expect something later, I need to check my motives.
