I see this mistake all the time.
People get out there and say, “I’m going to show you how to have good health, the best sex you’ve ever had and give you an awesome financial plan.”
It’s great if you have all those skills, but what is your dime? What are you uniquely here to teach?
When you try to do everything, you risk becoming like that old adage: jack of all trades, master of nothing.
And it’s becoming a master of something that will get you noticed…and get you booked.
I tweak it, but, essentially, I’ve had the same Signature Talk for four years: “Boost Sales Using Irresistible Offers for Those Who Love What They Do but Hate the Sales Part.”
I have a niche, a sliver of the pie.
That niche gets me invited onto other people’s stages, because I complement their work, not compete with it.
If you cover a lot of ground, it really doesn’t serve other experts to put you on their stage or introduce you to their subscribers. Too much possible overlap can cause client confusion.
On the other hand, if you’re niched, you’re unique and valuable. You can enhance what they’re doing.
For instance, Brian Tracy is a sales master, but he’s brought me in to teach Irresistible Offers.
So what is your sliver of the pie? What are you here to teach?
If you can get clear about that and articulate it, the speaking gigs — and the clients who need you — will start to flock.
