For the 14 years that my husband was in medical school, becoming a heart surgeon, I was the primary breadwinner.
During his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship, we lived in Tucson, and I would literally drop off my two little kids at school in the morning, and then go speak, over lunch, at some local venue, such as the Arizona Small Business Owners Association.
I spoke for free on my topic, how to sell without being salesy, and it was very easy to get the gigs.
During my talk, I sold $300 to $500 packages. There’d be 30 people in the room, 6 people would generally buy, for a total of $1800-$3,000. That’s pretty modest, but they weren’t expecting to buy during this little lunchtime event.
Then I’d go grocery shopping and pick up my kids from school.
If I did that only once a week, guess what? That’s a six-figure income for my family.
