If you want to make more money, you should never say the following three things. They can make you appear less competent than you are, and can have a big impact on your bottom line.
- “Let me think about it.” We say this to delay making a decision, and then, guess what, we appear indecisive. Indecision deadens our lives, preventing us from moving forward at the pace that we could. You know in your heart or gut if it’s a yes or a no. So make the decision, and move on.
- “Why don’t you think about it and get back to me.” We think we’re being sensitive when we utter this phrase, but we’re actually just encouraging other people to delay their decisions. We’re wasting everybody’s time by creating these open loops where we have to get back to them or they have to get back to us. These loops literally cost us thousands of dollars as well as lost time and energy.
- “Should I have…” fill in the blank. This is second-guessing. And every time we do it, we appear timid. Plus, we’re probably incorrect. Usually what we’re second-guessing was the correct, core decision in the first place.
